Chandrapuram well cleaned |

As part of a plan to clean up water sources and improve the quality of water available to people. A well in Chandrapuram, a hamlet of Mukarampakkam in Tiruvallur District, was cleaned up and is now free of contamination. [Read more] |

Sivan koil kulam restored |
|
There are two small ponds (kulams) near Sivan koil (temple) in Keezh Karumanur of Soolaimeni panchayat in Tiruvallur District. The new kulam - (Survey no 272) used to be a percolation lake feeding the ground water table and the surround tubewells used for irrigation. This kulam had silted up in the past few years and its inlet from Sengarai lake - 2 km away had also silted over leading to this adn the neighbouring kulam completely drying up and in turn drying up the wells. Awareness generation on IAMWARM decentralised |

The orientation on the government run Irrigated Agriculture Mechanisation and Water-Bodies Restoration and Management (IAMWARM) project continues with meetings being held at Lachivakkam on 27 July and Kakkavakkam on the 5th August. These meetings were attended by 50 farmers and 205 farmers respectively. Replacing government agricultural officers and representatives from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Tirur were two farmers Kalidas from Soolaimeni and Pazhani from Mukkarambakkam, both of whom have adopted the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) in their own fields. As a consequence of the resources persons being local, the discussion that followed was even more animated and the farmers raised issues on the difficulties they have been facing at work.
